Where to Be Tonight? Civilian Art Projects! I’m not gonna waste my time telling you about all of the other openings happening tonight, because there’s only one place I think you should be: the opening tonight for Site/Schema by Nikki Painter and Pan’s Pipes by Erick Jackson, George Jenne and Ryan Hill.
I went to the private preview on Thursday and IT IS AWESOME! Pan’s Pipes referentially recreates the head shop vibe of a 70’s/80’s youth including modeling glue, wax bongs, blacklights and tripped out paintings. Site/Schema is Painter’s best work yet combining collage, drawing, pen & ink in an intensely combustible yet serene way. In addition, her 2 installations are wonderful bookends to these very different, yet complementary shows [disclaimer: I own works by both Erick Jackson and Nikki Painter].
