Saturday Pick: Whose Barbarian? My Barbarian!

I love it when LA comes to town! And it couldn’t be better than the My Barbarian collective presenting "Broke People’s Baroque Peoples’ Theater: Flat Busted Wig Beauty Window Fatale" at Transformer Gallery. And if that title alone wasn’t enough to get you motivated to see them, I don’t know what to tell you.

The brains/barbarians of this group are Malik Gaines, Jade Gordon and Alexandro Segade. I became familiar with some of Malik Gaines work when he curated a show at Vox Populi in Philly that included Sherin Guirguis, a friend and brilliant artist. Malik is also Curator-at-Large at LAX Art which consistently shows cutting edge and emerging artists in Los Angeles, and are always on my drop-by list when I get to town.

I admit to being ignorant of Jade and Alexandro’s work independent of My Barbarian, but am looking forward to learning more about them as solo artists. Transformer Gallery gets a huge thumbs up for kicking off their Fall program in style!
