The D.C. Docent

Saturday Pick: Call + Response @HamiltonianDC

Pairing one call (short fiction or poetry) with one response (a new installation piece), 4 writers and 4 artists come together in this project for the second year in a row. Call + Response: Textures sounds like a great concept and features one of my favorite local poets Naomi Ayala (who is also the founding Executive Director of 826DC; see my blog post on 826DC’s Franco Fundraiser). Naomi and I first met over a decade ago when we were both recipients of poetry grants from the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities and did some readings together. Naomi is an educator, an activist, an organizer, and an all-around woman to be feared and revered for her talent and heart.

If Naomi is any indicator of the rest of the talent assembled, this is going to be a show worth seeing and believing.

Tonight at Hamiltonian Gallery, with panel discussion of writers and artists at 5:30pm, opening reception from 7-9pm. (Show runs from April 16 - May 7, 2011).
